and for you visual learners, my new hair. It is much more sticky-uppy and alfalfa-silly than this photo illustrates, but I love it so.  Not only did I lose 20lbs when I cut my hair, but I also shaved 20 minutes off my morning routine. Also, can we talk about the ‘morebeaute’  (Free!) Iphone app? Awesome.  The above mentioned Gala did a photo-app roundup and she was so.not.wrong about this one. Is nice not to look like a washed out piece of old lunchmeat. I may be slightly self deprecating on a good day, but even I know I’m way eff’in cuter than most iphone photos would let on! And now, I look like a 14yo boy with anime hair. I ROCK!

I use the word ‘something’ + ‘sometimes’ a lot in my own writing. I wonder if it’s laziness, sometimes (see) or something else. I think of “something” as the great unknowable. The parts hidden from view. If I say “I had a dream of some other kingdom”, the kingdom becomes yours, not mine. Whatever sprouts from dirt and trees and brick and mortar isn’t my castle, it’s some other. A castle it’s likely I’ll never see.

The rain brings on dreams. Lattice-roofs and owls with big black eyes. Watery footsteps. Door handles from which keys dangle, rusted and unused. The locks on the doors opening in different ways.

Woopsie. What else? I bought t-shirts. Finally a Batman, I keep saying I will do this thing and then I don’t, and this! Which is singularly awesome for two reasons. Well, three. Or Four, maybe? 1) my pure love of Resident Evil video games. Most of them. Not the rail shooters, but the rest, yes. 2) my love of Leon S. Kennedy (seriously, I get he’s a video game character, but he’s Hawt) 3) my love of the word “Umbrella” (seriously, I built a whole world in my novel around an umbrella. This = Love), and finally (4), my love of the typewriter. See what I’m saying? This will save your life! It’s funny + awesome. And I’m giddy about it. And now, because of derby, I’m not afraid to alter t-shirts so soon it will fit unlike a box man over my lady frame.

Honestly, this is all I got. Next weekend we’re in Edmonton playing E-Ville (the Kill Jills, that’s my derby team). I think I’m bench-wenching, which should be fun, and a learning experience. Which is awesome, but after that?  I have this feeling I’m just taking a Saturday off. It may be a pajama day. We may need one of those after all of this.

and I like this, or where this is going, in this dark and funeral part of Umbrella:

And I really liked skating in my first and proper derby bout, with spectators and other proper things. I did not like Punky B breaking her ankle or how that felt to wait with her and then have to get up and skate the rest of the bout (or half, as the case may be), but at the same time I really liked skating the rest of the bout. It seemed important. Sports. They’re strange and surprising.

And I was going to write some more, but it’s now 11:13 PM on this undisclosed day, and that means it’s probably good for sleep.

Approximately 72 hours after my last post, I can safely say that the above quote is still made of things involving truth, and other swell things, like plain chocolate and marshmallow fluff. I think the first time I found that quote, I related it to WGT, or something else nearby containing 148 BPM and buckles. Now I’m relating it to rollerderby. To walkie talkies and staircases. To powerjams and pivotlines.

I am exhausted. I just really am. But I am also super full of happy. And my ears are full of punk rock. And my feet have wheels.

This weekend is Flat Track Fever, the 1st Annual Western Canada/US Roller Derby Tournament. Pretty much, this weekend, I am going to be there, instead of here. I will tweet photos for your viewing pleasure.  It’ll be awesome. I’m not even sure this is a blog post.  Am I awake?

Now, I’m going to make pancakes. Then I’m going to the Olympic Oval to hang with my derby family.
